Learning Is Fun! Be Here On Day One!

The 2010-11 school year will commence on August 9th. It’s important that children are in school, because learning begins on the very first day of instruction. Scottsdale Unified teachers come to class each day prepared to teach all students, and these lessons are learned best when children are in class! Remember 08-09-10 – Learning Is Fun! Be Here On Day One!

Olivia's Walk
On Saturday, May 15, a group of Hohokam staff, students, and parents participated in the 4th Annual Olivia’s Walk. Olivia Hoffman is a Hohokam 2nd grade homebound student who was diagnosed with Metachromatic Leukodystrophy (MLD) at the age of 2. The group completed a 5K Walk around Tempe Town Lake to raise funds for MLD and Hohokam 2nd graders made a large banner in support of Olivia and her family.
Love of Reading
As a part of Love to Read month at Hohokam we invited families to join us for a barbecue and a classroom reading activity.  Mrs. Kersten's class enjoyed a family read time together outside. Good food + good books = good times!
One Great School – One Great Book
May is Love to Read month at Hohokam. As part of our celebration of reading, the entire school is reading the Newberry Honor book, Because of Winn Dixie.  The students listened attentively at our kick-off assembly as Chapter One was read. Share the adventures of Winn Dixie with your child. Enjoy the journey.
Generous Book Donation
Hohokam Preschool-4th grade students were the lucky recipients of a book to call their own due to a generous donation of 391 books by the American Association of University Women. This dedicated group of women collect books all year long in order to make this happen. Because of their generosity and caring, children will be enjoying a new book with their family this evening! Hohokam thanks you for your support.
PANDA Preschool
We have openings in our PANDA preschool.  Classes are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday for 2 hours and 45 minutes each day.  The cost is $30 per week.  Contact Karissa Letscher at 480-484-1800 x5158 for more information.
